Hello all, thought it start a build thread on my GTI

I bought it from a police auction with no keys/history didnt even see it just pictures, when it turned up it was much much worse than the pictures made it out to be. The car has had a very hard life and OSR 1/4 was full of filler, paint all round was in very poor condition. So there was no point me putting it back on the road as a normal car!

This is how it was dropped off, xenons where so badly bodged iv never seen anything like it. Twisted wired, news paper holding the bulbs in place!

So basically sold the interior and all the bits i didnt need, which actually returned a healthy sum!

Made a harness bar, it mounts to factory mounts at the back, didn't want to make anything to permanent as i will get a cage eventually.

Removed anything that wasn't needed anymore!





Had some metal laying around in the workshop, so made a X brace to bolt to the old seat belt points. Not structural what so ever but probably helps a tiny bit.





My favourite mod so far, hole sawed the dash to fit mk1 VDO gauges!





Oil temp sender from a mk2 16v mounted to a sump plug.



Wired up and working, pressure gauge also works now, had to use a remote pressure sender.


Made a blank for the stereo.



Fitted a boost gauge



BC coilovers fitted!


Probably does nothing, but a bit of OE aero from an A3

My first ever track day was awesome, car performed faultlessly.



Second track day at brands was going well until last 10 mins of session when i hit a patch of oil where a Clio blew its gearbox, i ran out of talent and kissed the wall.

look at the filler!




So now the annoying part, i replaced the rear 1/4 with a genuine one, the state of that panel was why it became a track car in the first place so now its a better car after the crash!

Running gear wise it only bent the hub :)



£39 wing from euros  will eventually go wider at the front!


New inner tub and 1/4 in place



Got a bit carried away!





Friend lent me his body shop for the weekend, paints not perfect but Racecar!

Was back on track 3 weeks after the crash   

My fastest lap was 58.01 which i was happy with

Indeed your're correct.

The wing is ok, not very well made but after a little bit of fettling it was alright. I'd go genuine though if i was you, only reason i used it was because i want wider front eventually.

How do you find the tyres? Im thinkin the nankangs or federal 595 for both road and track

Out of interest, did you weigh the stuff coming out of the car, or have an idea how much the car weighs now?

What else do you have planned? I'm sure a map and brake upgrade would pay big dividends on track.

I've got NS2R's on my track TT and I'll warn you now - they're horrible in the wet! Even with haldex. Ended up buying another set of wheels to mount some continental sport contact 5's onto (which are excellent in the rain) as a "wet" setup.

Excellent in the dry though, as are the federals. Very grippy on a dry track.

  I should of weighed everything, there was so much. I even unpicked all the redundant wiring, so the only wires left going to the back are for lights and demister. Door control modules are gone, hard wired the motors in with a basic switch on each door, so only 2 wires in each door. Anything to do with airbags are gone, bottom of the dash is all cut out. Spot weld drilled any bracket that are no longer needed, complete AC setup gone, Every trace of sound deading gone.

Not much more left i can get rid of! unless i start hole sawing things!

Love them, but i haven't tried any other semi slicks to compare them against.

My friend runs them on his daily GTI, im sure come winter they will get hairy though.

Yeah I can understand a semi slick wouldnt be great in the rain but then again I try not to drive lively in the rain for obvious reasons.
Currently on goodyear egale f1 which seem decent for a road tyre

Interesting read and nice work, just curious as to why you didn't mount the gauges in the radio blanking panel?

Great work, could extra weight be saved by removing the dashboard too? Or are the electrics too reliant on that being there?

Originaly i was going to mount a tablet there via OBD link, but i found it slow and annoying as it had a second or so delay.

You can clearly see them from my seat anyway :)
